In 1925, a relay of sled dog teams, including many Siberian Huskies, heroically delivered diphtheria antitoxin across 674 miles of harsh Alaskan terrain to save the town of Nome from a deadly outbreak. The most famous dogs from this mission were Balto, who led the final leg, and Togo, who covered the longest and most treacherous distance.
