Advocacy Opportunities

At Speak Up 4 Paws, we believe in turning compassion into action. Our Advocacy Opportunities page is dedicated to connecting you with impactful ways to make a difference for animals, from supporting stronger laws to standing against harmful practices. Many of these opportunities are presented in collaboration with the Animal Legal Defense Fund, an organization at the forefront of animal protection. Here, you’ll find ways to raise your voice, advocate for policy change, and help build a world where every animal is treated with respect and kindness. Join us in taking a stand and creating lasting change for animals everywhere.

Better CARE for Animals Act

The Animal Welfare Act (AWA), signed into law on August 24, 1966, is the primary federal legislation in the United States that regulates the treatment of animals in various contexts, including research, teaching, testing, exhibition, and transportation. The AWA is enforced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), specifically the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Animal Care division.

In summary, the AWA plays a crucial role in safeguarding animals, but improvements are needed to ensure timely enforcement and protect animal welfare. The Better CARE for Animals Act seeks to enhance collaboration and accountability, ultimately saving lives and alleviating suffering.

Taking Puppy Mill Cruelty to Court

The Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF), with support from the public, is pursuing a class-action lawsuit against JAK’s Puppies and others involved in the puppy laundering scheme. The case, which includes a RICO claim, represents puppy guardians who were deceived. ALDF and class-action firm Smith & Lowney PLLC are leading the representation for the plaintiffs.
